My daughter, 4 Yrs 9 months of age has been suferring from absences attacks and taking Valporin 200 three times a day ( 2.5ml - 2.5ml - 5ml ) since 2nd week of May this year. Since 12th instant Dr has advised to take Valporin 200 three doses of 5ml each. When medicine started she had about 25 jerks a day. Since last week, it is noticed that she suffers no jerks. Please guide whether we should stop the medicine because after starting the medicine her weight has increased by 5Kgs. She is now 24 Kgs. How her weight will reduce and come to normal. Will she be having any other complication due to this medicine in her life later on. Presently she is undergoing the treatmenr from Dr Rajeev Anand of Jaipur Golden Hospital, Delhi. My nephew 3 yrs old is suffering from absence attacks from past 2 years. He was of 1.5 yrs when he got the first attack. His body got freezed and turned to blue for 5 minutes. after that he came normal position. But after that he was little lazy and went to sleep. the problem arises when he these attacks came regularly. His interval between attacks were 2 months then 45 days, then 30 days n keep on going. Now a days he is undergoing treatment from PGI Hospital, Chandigarh from past 2 years. and VALPORIN 200 (2ML,2ML,2ML) is suggested by doctors. But he is still suffereing from these attacks. Even 10 days back he got 10-15 attacks in a day and doctors in PGI hospital said that its normal. Just Wait and Watch.

Hi there.

I don't know any doctors in Delhi but I can give you some opinion.  Seizures of any type do not go away very easily and there is a big chance that stopping the medications may result in the seizures coming back or getting more frequent.  The weight gain is also hard to attribute to this drug, and it is important to look at other causes of weight gain, most commonly due to increased caloric intake.  It is important that the medications be continued until your doctor says otherwise as withdrawal may cause more problems.

Wishing you and your child all the best.  Regards.
