Acoustic neuroma - surgery in UK, Spain or New Zealand?

by lincolnr, Mar 27, 2008 03:30PM
My fiance has just been diagnosed with a large acoustic neuroma (3-3.5cm).  We work on a yacht so are currently in Palma, Mallorca, Spain.  We are trying to decide where to have the surgery.  There is a surgeon here (Dr Tomas barberan manuel) who says he performs 12 of these surgeries a year.  Is this enough expertise?  Would it be better to go to the UK?  My parents live near Liverpool - are there any surgeons anyone recommends near there?  He is actually a New Zealander - so another option to for him to go home and be close to the rest of his family.  Any opinions from patients and experts would be appreciated to help make these decisions.
Thank you!  Sally
