Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis

hello i'm from greece, my daughter is 18 and 4 years ago she was diagnosted with ADEM. She cannot eat and that's why she has gastrostomy she can't move fully her arms and legs and she cannot speak at all, though she is doing 4 years at least physiotheapy and speachtherapy she has no improvement.Is there a hope for full recovery.Is there a health center that helps people with Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis?

Hi, Thank you for your question. Persistent headache is more common with encephalomyelitis, which is inflammation of the brain and spinal cord due to post infection or injury. Other symptoms could be delirium, seizures and coma. Unfortunetly, rehabilitation is the only effective way to help the patient regain function to the possible extent and prevent from permanent losses. If rehabilitation program is appropriately instituted, most of the patients can regain maximum functions with appropriate therapy, training and support services. For coordinated rehabilitation program a team of a neurologist, a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist and a speech-language pathologist, a nutritionist work together to help you in your recovery.
