Acute neck pain

I was lifting weights a couple of days ago when suddenly I felt a lot of pressure at the base of my neck. Then I started feeling a sharp shooting pain. The pain finally subsided after a couple of minutes, but now every time I cough or sneeze I feel the pain coming back. Lately I've started feeling the pain radiate to my face, and even feel pressure in my teeth. I went to see a doctor but she didn't tell me what was wrong. She only prescribed Ibuprofen and didn't really do a physical examination. I was wondering if any of you had any idea of what could be wrong with me. I'm concerned that it's something more serious.
