Adrenal Insufficiency

Adrenal Insufficiency

I have a couple herniated disks that were scheduled to be fused on 12/28, but due to constant abnormal cortisol and ACTH levels since May, they postponed it and put me on Cortisol.  I am to return after 3 weeks to re-check my blood.  My theory is that when they gave me epidural and facet injections it was too much so my glands quit making them and never started back up.  Is this adrenal insufficiency, Addisions Disease????  Also had abnormal VEP test.  Have seen endocrinologist who wanted to put me on medrol pack and I said hell no because that's what started copious sided effects.  It wasn't until I went to get cleared for surgery that I was told I have adrenal insufficiency.  Had CAT skin on kidneys and they said it was normal.  What is going on?????

My father had a disease called Cushing where he had too much cortisol being produced.  If memory serves me right, his body was over creating ACTH which then caused the over creation of cortisol.  Although you have the opposite problem, it seems that the same organs would be involved.

Have you had your pituitary gland checked?

If I were in your shoes, I would ask for a complete endocrine work up to check your entire system.  I'm about to ask for that same thing because of the hereditary concerns about Cushings plus some other stuff....
