After stroke and urinary incontinence

by mehraban, Feb 04, 2009 11:59PM
My mom had a stroke sept/2008. The stroke affected her to be left side paralyzed. A physical therapist works with her 3 times a day and she practices everyday. She walks very slowly by a cane and a helper. One of her biggest problems is urinary incontinence. She notices that her bladder is full but she cant wait more than a few seconds. We tried to take her every 2-3 hours to go the bathroom training, however it did not work because sometime when she is trying to stand from her sitting position or during her routine exercises she cant control her urine. In other words, in some certain position her bladder cant tolerate more than %10-15 fullness and has to be empty right away. I am wondering if there is any treatment, any exercises, medication or anything to help her before it is too late. Will she be better over time? This is so stressful for whole family and herself.
