Anaplastic Astrocytoma Radiaion/Chemotherapy Treatment

by Mark__0, Mar 28, 1998 12:00AM

Is the best initial method of post surgery treatment for a grade 3 anaplastic astrocytoma a combination of chemotherapy and radiation or just radiation alone, followed by chemotherapy?

by CCF Neurosurgery MD/GM, Mar 28, 1998 12:00AM

Dear Mark:
It is difficult to say for sure. The Classical teaching is that treatment is surgery followed by radiation. In some cases Chemo can help, especially with the advent of new chemotherapeutic agents. If chemo is being offered you should find out more about the details especially the type and evidence supporting its use.
Good Luck!
