Annular tear in lumbar disc

How safe & effective is a SpineCATH treatment in repairing an annular tear in the L4 disc?

Dear Diane:

As with any surgical procedure, alot depends on the person doing the surgery.  If he/she has done enough patients to have a track record, then I would assume that he/she is good enough to do surgery on you.  If this is his/her initial attempts I would seek another surgeon.  If the tear is localized so the procedure can be done effectively (need to ask the neurosurgeon, likely a second opinion would be best) then the risks and benefits to the procedure should be a go.  I can't answer this question not having seen the film.  There should be good results.

Sincerely,

CCF Neuro MD
