Anxiety??

by Topher7, Jun 13, 2007 12:00AM
I'll start by admitting that I have a leaning to being a hypo about stuff. I was never that way until 2000 when a fluke heart virus almost killed me. After that I had panic attacks about my heart going out of rhythm, etc. despite being completely healthy.

So sometime in March my cardiologist decided I was doing so well and had recovered that he would eliminate one of my meds....this med is known to be clean and not to cause any rebound effect or anything like that. The problem was I was so used to taking them that I became nervous. Within a week I had pressure on my temples and sides of my head. My blood pressure had risen too. The doctors thought I was making myself crazy so they told me to go back to the med in half the dosage. It worked, I was happy and no more headaches really. Flash forward to last week. My wife is pregnant..due in August and I start having some pressure on my head again. This time I get a little lightheaded at times..not even with the headaches...and my eyes seem tired. They get worse when I obsess about it or read these boards. I might be fine all day but if I see a sympton like mine before bed the head has the vice back on it and I get a little lightheaded. There has been no double vision, nausea, dizziness where I'm off balance. A doctor this past friday did a Neurological and said I need to play golf. Is this classic anxciety or should I worry?

Have you considered talking with a psychologist while also pursuing the issue with your medical doctors?  That way you've got both bases covered.  Plus, whether your symptoms are indicative of a medical problem or not, a psychologist could help you to learn to manage your anxiety about them and to cope better with life's many stressors.

I am a psychologist, but I have no way of evaluating the cause of your symptoms.  Sorry about that....
