Any chance in technology?

I have never tried one of the forums, but it is worth a try. On Dec 5, 2008 I slipped on a piece of ice on my deck while putting the dog out.  Long story short, I tore my quadricepts 100% away from the knee cap and the retracted into my upper thigh. The knee was drained several times but with little relief after two days. I was give a foam IMO ilizer for a week with crutches and tylon3 (what a joke for the pain). A week later surgery was done to rea
tche the quadricepts. I believe 5 holes were drilled into the knee cap and heavy sutures were used. While in post op, I suffered a massive MI that last 3 hours. They obviously saved me and I made them transfer me to a hospital with a cath lab. It was determined that a required a quadrule by-pass. I waited in ICU for a week to allow the blood thinners out of my system.  The cabbage was successful but I did suffer several afibs while recovering. I am still on meds to control that since I have allergy to statins (not a good case). After several weeks the doctors came back with the logical case.  It was either my heart or my leg. My heart was more important.  By the way, this whole time I felt like losing my mind. No movement of my left leg and I could not use my arms to lift even 5 lbs.  No moving in bed at all less doing Anything myself.  The Doctors immediately made me start walking around week 3.  Several people would support me and I would walk several feet. It eventually got longer to around 90. I can not explain the pain at times nor the feeling of your knee bending in the wrong direction.  I was sent to a rehab hospital for a week and the home for out patient therapy.  I always wondered and asked why I was unable to lift my leg. I was told it was the weakening from the Hospital. Therapy was most painful with them focusing on bending my knee greater then 30 degrees. I couldn't do this with my leg but only trying to bend it with my hands or pulling on a rope around my foot. Tylonol 3 was still my pain med dispute my pleading and then anger with my Ortho. I stopped PT after 4 weeks even though he scheduled 6. I left 6 messages about the pain and my apparent retrogressive progress in PT. I finally saw him in an appointment and he was shocked I was walking with a cane and my wife had to lift my bad leg to put it on his exam table.  He immediately wrote a script for a neurologist. I already knew the outcome. My femoral nerve was severed up in my hip somewhere around the groin.  Also the nerve that runs down my calf and controls foot droop was damaged. I suspect from the turniguit during surgery but I can't prove that.  In any case my Ortho instructed me that there is nothing medically he can do.  I see a pain management specialist, my cardiologist and my primary care. A year ago, I was diagnosed with a severe DVT in the bad leg, started heprin and then coumodin since. Last week, almost a year after the DVT the ultrsound shows chronic DVT that runs most of the length of the leg. My mother died of an undiagnosed DVT in her leg 6 months ago, so I a
quite aware of the statistics.  I am willing to go through any experimental treatment or surgery to regain my leg.  Is there anyone out there doing this or neurological surgery.  I feel my quadricepts are too atrophied to ever support the leg again.  But even to bend it controllably would benefit. It would be nice to drive again. Mostc
cars do not have a footwell deep enough for someone to put a locked leg into.  It's even tougher when you can't lift it.  Also, I must ask, is amputation something I should seriuosly consider now due to the chronic DVT.  The tell me the artery is atrophying as well.  By the way I am only 43.
Thanks for your time and I look forward to your suggestions.

By the way, the leg is palsy and the knee has been aloud to fuse. I hope this is the right forum.  I realize there is a lot going on here, but I feel the nerve would be key at this point. Thanks.
