Any help for husband having frequent seizures?

My husband is 31 years old. He had his first seizure in April 2008. The next came in August 2008. I took him to see a neurologist and they had no conclusive answer, just prescribed Topomax (topamax) and said that will make them stop. Since he's been taking the medication (started in mid September) his seizures have gotten more frequent, almost daily. The only difference seems to be is that he knows when they are coming on. He does not have epilepsy nor did the MRI show anything. I'm getting very worried as now when he seizes he loses his ability to speak and/or move, the longest that's lasted has been at least an hour. Another time his brain sent him back about 15 years and he had no recollection of what was going on. It took him at least an hour to realize what was going on in the present. It was very scary for myself and our family. Now he has a very difficult time remembering everyday things, which may be caused from the medication. I can not handle seeing him go through this any longer. Any advice?

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
Seizures can be epileptic associated with misfiring of neurons in the brain or non epileptic due to stress, dehydration and hypoglycemia. For the diagnosis of epilepsy it is important to undergo an EEG exam. Was an EEG done in your husband’s case?
It seems Topamax is not working in your husband’s case. Please discuss this with his neurologist as there are other effective seizure medications available to control the symptoms.
Let us know if you need more information.
