Anyone know about white spots on MRI's please!

by kel1, Oct 13, 2008 04:18PM
Hi all.
Been having symptoms now for 3 years on and off.
Balance probs, tired shakey legs/head, dizziness, sinking into the ground while taking steps, lethargy.

Had numerous MRI's. EVP and spinal MRI-NAD.
Ok so, brain MRI showed white spots. The neurologist said not realted to MS nothing to worry about.
I'm basically a mystery wait a see case but still unable to live a normal life!

My question is:
With these white spots. From what i read i'm slightly worried. I am 30, never had migraines and no other PMH so why are they there? Can they be the start of something? If i could have a stroke in the future or it could turn out to be MS i'd just like to know!

Anyone know if people can have white spots on the brain MRI for no reason? Like me aparently!
Still have no idea why my bod's misbehaving.

Thank you for any help.

Kelly

Hi
White matter lesions (WMLs) are seen in migraine, ischemia, demyelinating disease such as multiple sclerosis, infections, toxic causes, Alzheimer’s disease, periventricular leukomalacia and leukodystrophies and other neurodegenerative diseases, and central nervous system vasculitis.
MRI as an investigative modality, which is used in correlation with the clinical signs and symptoms, as an ideal tool for early diagnosis and management of several white matter diseases of brain and spinal cord. Some changes in white matter are seen in migraine patients (especially in migraine with aura). They may also be present in asymptomatic patients.
Since you have additional symptoms like balance problems, shakiness of legs, dizziness, etc., it might be indicative of some condition like Multiple sclerosis. Hence, I would advise that you consult a neurologist for further evaluation and to rule out causes of such lesions and the presence of any vascular risk factors.
Take care.
