Arachnoid Cysts

My 16 year old daughter was just diagnosed with having an arachnoid cyst after having a seizure for the first time.
Ive read lots of different opinions about this and most say the seizure would not have been caused by the arachnoid cyst. Why is that?
It seems the only logical answer to me.
Thank you, Dena
I need to see a neurologist or surgeon and dont know how to decide which one to consult. Any suggestions?
Thank you. My email is ***@****

Hi,
How are you? Arachnoid cysts are benign cysts that occur in the cerebrospinal axis in relation to the arachnoid membrane and that do not communicate with the ventricular system. They usually contain clear, colorless fluid that is most likely normal cerebrospinal fluid; rarely, they contain xanthochromic fluid. Most are developmental anomalies.
Patients usually are asymptomatic, even when the cyst is quite large. The most common associated clinical features include headache, calvarial bulging, intracranial hypertension, craniomegaly, developmental delay, visual loss, precocious puberty, and seizures; less frequently, focal neurologic signs occur. Arachnoid cysts are known to rupture into the subdural space or undergo intracystic hemorrhage.

MRI is the diagnostic procedure of choice because of its ability to demonstrate the exact location, extent, and relationship of the arachnoid cyst to adjacent brain or spinal cord. Arachnoid cysts in the spine may arise anterior, posterior or posterolateral to the spinal cord and may be intra- or extradural in location or a combination of both. They may be unilocular or multilocular.
You need to see a neurosurgeon for further assistance regarding treatment.
Best.
