Are these symptons of impending stroke?

I have been on Coumadin for 3 years.  Will this prevent strokes?
My PCP is out of town and I can't get a referral.  Should I go to the
  emergency room? Thanks, Lisa

Coumadin can prevent strokes in patients with atrial fibrillation. That doesn't mean it's a 100% prevention, but it is a significant reduction in risk.
It's hard to advise you exactly what to do. I would be seen as soon as possible. If you get new symptoms, an ER visit may be appropriate. If your PCP is out of town, there should be a doctor covering for him/her who can advise you. Call that office and let them know this is a matter of some importance. Hopefully, you can get this taken care of without the ER (though that office may suggest the ER). Remember, this forum can't substitute for medical advice, but at least hopefully you can get pointed in the right direction.
Good luck. CCF MD mdf.
