Astrocytoma

  My 19 year old sister has a tumor in her spinal cord.  She's just finished
  both IV and tablet steroids.  Most likely, she's going to have to have surgery.  
  Some questions are:
  What exactly does the surgery involve, procedurally?
  What are the risks?
  Post-op procedures?
  Liklihood of complete recovery?
  Statistically, what are the results of these surgeries?
  How do we go about finding the best doctor to do this surgery? The neurosurgeon she's seeing is excellent I'm sure, but my family and I want the BEST doctor for this particular surgery, preferrably, someone with a few under their belt.

Thanks for the question Justin. I wish I could give you specific information but with the type of problem your sister has it is impossible to be specific without seeing her and the films. To begin with I do not know the size, location or current problems that she is having. If you wish to speak to one of our neurosurgeons we could set up a consult.
