Atypical Migraines

Atypical Migraines

I'm 37, and recently, I've been having frightening dizzy spells at onset of my periods.   I've also been getting tingling sensations in my fingertips.  I've seen a doctor and he suspects atypical migraine.  I'm still waiting on some lab results to rule out other causes, but in the mean time, what IS an atypical migraine?  I heard it makes you think you're going crazy.  Is this something that gets better, or worse as you get older?

Thanks for the quesion Beth. Most people will refer to atypical migraine as migraine that does not fit the "typical" pattern. It is really not a very good term and many of the disorders that people end up calling migraine may not be. I suspect that since your symptoms come on around your menstrual cycle that your doctor feels they may be migraine related. They are atypical in that you do not have an associated headache. Often in these cases if you treat the symptoms as migraine patients do better. I'm not sure if the tingling in your finger tips represents some other problem? such as carpal tunnels syndrome. If you wish to have a consultation at CCF call 216 444 5559. Good luck.
