B12 deficiency

B12 deficiency

I had pelvic radiation for a uterine sarcoma in 04 and wonder if this could be the reason for my developing pernicious anemia.

I have just started 2000mcg daily oral B12 and wonder if anyone has thoughts about this.  I offered to self inject hoping for that route as a faster means to recovery.  My doc prefers megadoses of oral B12 to injections.

My symptoms have included tingling, burning hands and legs along with tinitis and depression.  What recovery time should I expect for the neuropathy symptoms?

Hi Jas,
You had uterine sarcoma for which you underwent radiation therapy in pelvic region.
Were there any side-effects due to radiation therapy?
If radiation were mistakenly propelled at upper part of right pelvis, there is a chance that it might have damaged the ileum where vitamin B12intrinsic factor complex is finally absorbed.
This would have led to decrease in Vitamin B12 concentration and hence symptoms.
It will take around 4-6 weeks to see signs of improvement.
Keep me informed if you have any queries.
Bye.
