Back Pain

Hi. I was wondering what could be causing my back pain. I have had low back pain for about 3 years now. I've been to doctors and chiropractors. The chiro. did an x-ray also. The doctors all say its just musculer. Anyhow I notice alot that my legs also feel "achey (achy)" quite a bit. I also noticed when I awoke one morning that my legs ached so bad (like a toothache) that I couldnt get comfortable now matter how I laid. After I got out of bed I took some Aleve and a bit later the pain was gone and hadnt returned. My question is what could cause low back pain that makes your legs feel like that sometimes too and also can low back pain be associated with colitis? Thanks

Sorry that your having back pain. This is one of the most common complaints seen in the neurological physician's office. There are many, many etiologies of back pain, from cancer to strained muscles. Achy pain that does not radiate is usually not neuronal in nature (i.e. pinched nerve). Dull, achy pain can be muscular or boney. Yes, colitis can cause referred pain to the back. Since this has only happened once, I would not worry too much about it. However, if it becomes recurrent, I would visit your family physician and begin to figure out what might be causing it.
