Back and chest pain with herniations?

Back and chest pain with herniations?

Hi

I am a 40 year women who has had been told after numerous tests for upper abdominal pain and right side pain that I have a slight herniation at T11-12, a possible syrinx from T3-8 and a neck herniation at C5-6.

I found this out after suffering pain in my right upper back and side and right upper abdomen so severe at times they did bone scans, abdominal ultrasounds, bloodwork ( checking liver and pancreas), Cat scan of back and of chest, MRI's (2 w/ and without dye, chest xrays, ) anything they could think of only to find nothing wrong except the herniations.

My question is my neurologist says they are small herniations and they still have to determine if there definitely is a syrinx (could be a dilation he says ???) yet I am getting this constant pain in my right shoulder blade/wing area that goes into my chest bone that hurst so bad at times I don't feel like moving. I used to be able to lay down and feel better but now a days it's keeping me up at night. Every now and then I get a tingling in my shoulder blade as well, right underneath the blade area.

Could this pain be from herniations??  I get so worried that something awful is going on and if I just know that I am not going crazy and it's normal (?) to feel like this with disc herniations I may relax. If anyone is going through any of this please help....

If you have a disc herniation at C5-6 and, it is more to the right then this could explain your shoulder and shoulder blade pain, however a herniation at this location would not typically cause chest or sternum pain. However, if you have a syrinx in the thoracic region this may account for most of your pain symptoms. Therefore, I would work on obtaining a definative answer regarding the syrinx issue. If there is still some concern you should have a second opinion with an academic neurosurgeon who specializes in spinal disorders. Good luck.

I'm a 43 yr. old female.  Just about one year ago, I was having terrible neck pain.  I had an MRI and discovered I had a massive herniation of the C-6 & C-7 discs and the C-5 was bulging.  The herniation was to the left, so I also had arm and shoulder pain on the left side.  My arm would also go numb.  I had the 3 injections in my neck over the summer.  I was much better, but not totally pain free.  So, I went to a chiropracter for about 2 months and he manipulated my spin and I was finally totally pain free.  I've been pretty much pain free for the past 5 months.  Here's my concern - for about the past week, I keep getting this burning sensation or almost like a tingling in my right shoulder blade.  It doesn't last long and it's not painful, just annoying.  And, of course, I'm afraid it has to do with my neck?  Any help?
