Back pain continue afet surgerg

It have been 1 Year after my back surgery on -7/29/10, I still have sever back pain , left side of my neck and numbness in my left leg.Instead of lossing weight I seem to gain with all the drugs they have tried on me. I was going to the gym to work some of the kinks out, it work sometimes,after I try to walk around the gym atleast 2 times. I use to be a fast walker but now it takes me longer to get to one place, which make me very depressed. The pain have my job as an nurse aide/montior tech. I can do the work as an montior tech but not nurse aide, but my doctor informed to only do the montior teh.. work,and my job want to me do both or loose my step as gs6. I'm 61 years old and will be 62 in 1month, I am thinking about retirement instead, I have work fo 43 years, 3 grown childrens and I can on hold up to 30lbs. I am getting older ,the pt's getting heavier, stress , getting the best of me, and I belive it time to only take care of me. What els can I ask my Doctor do, I had the shots, surgery,wrok out a little, several mri. HELP

Hi there. This is degenerative disc disease at the cervical level and lumbar level and the postoperative prognosis depends on the degree on preoperative nerve damage, which if severe cannot be correction despite the decompressive surgery. If you have had no respite despite the surgery and the pain is persisting, you need to decrease the physical exertion that your job demands and consult a physiotherapist and a weight trainer after talking with your neurosurgeon. Physiotherapist to aid you with physical therapy for the pain and personal trainer to teach you exercises which you can do despite the limitation to check your weight. A healthy diet plan is also required. Keep in touch with family and friends to elate your morale. Quitting the job would be a feasible option. Hope this helps. Take care.
