Balance, Vestibular Problems, Neck, Head Pressure, Knee Weakness

by aviken, Jun 13, 2008 03:23AM
I started having a wide gait and occasional episodes of being off balance, about three and a half months ago. It was happening at night, once or twice a week.. It progressed to a every day occurence within a few more weeks. It is  also accompanied by weakness in the knees, stiff and sore neck and back, pressure in my head, muscle twitching, and overall weakness. My doctors diagnosed me with mild to moderate stenosis of the cervical spine( from a Mri)  and vestibular issues from a past inner ear infection. I have been in Physical Therapy for about two months and only feel a little better. My most concerning symptom is when I lay in bed at night...  I can feel a heavy pulse in my legs, back, head and other parts of my body ,accompanied by a vibrating sensation from the inside of my body. When I close my eyes it feels as if I am sinking into my bed or my recliner. Muscle Twitching and shuttering is becoming more frequent. I also feel pressure all over my scalp that increases when I bend over. Does anyone have any alternate ideas as to what may be causing this?

Thanks

Hi there.

From what you have described you may really do have primary nerve problems which may be directly related to the spinal stenosis.  Other factors to look at would include micronutrient deficiency (vitamin B or calcium) and stress which may elevate neurologic symptoms.  These symptoms may be also due to demyelinating conditions such as MS, or other spinal conditions such as ALS.  I suggest that you discuss with your neurologist regarding these other angles, and hopefully provide some solution.

Wishing you all the best.  Regards and God bless.
