Bells Palsy

by Donna48, Dec 08, 2007 01:53PM
My doctor told me I had Bells Palsy 2 1/2 months ago and prescribed steroids.  It seems to be a mild case, but can it affect both sides of your face?  At the beginning I couldn't wink my left eye and now I can wink my right eye.  I have tingling from time to time on both sides.  Is this just part of the recovery?

Hi Donna,
How are you feeling now?
Bells palsy does not affect both sides of face.
Any type of tingling, burning, or numbness is usually a symptom related to a nerve being damaged, diseased, or injured. The nerve involved appears to be originating from Trigeminal nerve on other side of lesion of Facial nerve.
Yes, it is part of recovery that you are feeling tingling on the side of Bells Palsy.
Hope this helps.
Bye.

I've had Bell's Palsy since I was 12, I am now 35 and still have it on the left side of my face.  You don't get it on both sides of your face.  I am a rare case.  Bell's palsy usually goes away with time.  Mine never did.  All your symptoms are normal.  Numbness, tingling, some pulling feeling near your mouth,  not being able to close your eye completely, eyebrow may not raise as high as the other.  The steroid packet should help.  I've talked with an acupuncture person and they deal with people with Bell's Palsy.  Acupuncture didn't work for me but I tried it 20 years to late.  That may be an option for you.  They say it helped people that started the acupuncture soon after being diagnosed .  Good Luck!  Any questions feel free to ask.
