'Bertolotti's Syndrome'

'Bertolotti's Syndrome'

After much ado over the years I finally have a name for the thing causing my lower back pain, "Bertolotti's Syndrome".  My Doc wants to inject anesthetic and steriods into my spine for pain control.  I've tried that approach before to no avail.  With a better idea of the exact nature of the problem, do you think I should try again.  Or should I just stick to yoga, daily walks, and meditation?  Thanks.

Bertolotti's syndrome is mechanical low back pain associated with lumbosacral transitional vertebrae and are common in the general population.

Treatment is controversial, especially surgical. In one series, injections gave transient relief, but the response from injections did not predict a successful surgery. Most patients who had surgery still had some pain postoperatively
In one report, surgical removal of an abnormal facet joint articulation resulted in a good outcome

You could always seek consulatation with a back specialist or surgeon to see if there are any other options to local injections

good luck
