The avm is on the left parential lobe, if my spelling that rite,. There wa no test done after the radiation, shands hospital wrote me a script for an mri with contrast for a year from now. The doctor did say that the radiation and location may affect my speech, but its only been a month, yesterday, so I dont know much yet, just worried.. Caroline
The location of my avm in the brain was on my left parietal lobe and is abot 33mm long, size of a silver dollar. The only thing the doc said before treatment was that it may in a few month affect my speech, but to soon to tell. Its above my left ear. Hope this helps. He also sais radiation side effects take mnths so i wonder why i feel and have pain now that ive never had before radiation.
It seems that the radiation has not achieved complete occlusion of the AVM. In such cases, there are chances of neurological symptoms. One in ten patients has such problems. You may think of a reassessment of the AVM.
sorry forgot the n in radiation...lol, how long does it take before a personwould feel pain from radiation, my doctor here says its was to soon, I think hes wrong, help
The side effects of radiation generally do not come within a month. But there can always be exceptions to rules. I guess if the radiation has not been able to occlude the AVM completely, you may get the symptoms due to the AVM itself. During the radiation, there may be some changes in the AVM.
Thank you so much for getting back with me so many times I feel better with your answers and am going to have another mri done this week to look at the avm, if I could ask one last question, what would be the normal amount of time to notice radiation problems to the brain if a month is to soon. would it be like a year from now or when, Im just wondering now is all ,what the norm time would be. Again thanks for everything, you have been great!!!
The side effects of radiation may start as early as two weeks of initiation of the therapy. Please let me know what the MRI says and if you have any more progress on this.
its been some time from the last talk we had, i had a cat scan done, doc didnt want an mri till one year after radiation, the cat scan showed a partly calcified avm, my neur doc, said that was a good sign, only thing i have now is everyday headaches and still head pains, plus not to mention the heartneat sounds I get in my eras, its been 8 months from radiation,am I in the clearn from side effects of the treatment? carolinehimes
Can you mention where the AVM is/was positioned in the brain ? And how was the assessment after the radiation ? Was there any change in the AVM ?
These symptoms are most likely to be side effects of the radiation. The side effects depend upon the position of the AVM.
