Brain Trauma

Brain Trauma

My son is in the Army in Afghanistan.  He was involved in a IED explosion and knocked unconscious by the concussive force.  He does not remember the incident and also claims to not recall the 4 weeks prior ot the incident.  The medical facility there is inadequate and since he is not visibly injured, he is not being transported for more extensive evaluation.  He is reporting an inability to remember daily events, smelling phantom spells and additionally has had outbursts of temper. (He is normally a very calm person.)  The Army has taken away his weapon, his access to the military computers, vehilcles, etc.  We also did not hear from him for the 4 weeks following the incident which seems to support his claim that he has had some memory loss.  My concern is that they have not escalated his condition for further analysis. Are the symtoms (symptoms) he describes consistent iwth a brain injury?  What is the possibility that a lack of treatment could result in further damage?
