Brain Tumor ? where do I go?

by Teresa__0__0, Dec 06, 1998 12:00AM

My Daughter is 16  and recently informed me she has been having headaches that are becoming more frequent and more intense. We live Outside a small town with limited Doctors.  In July she suffered a horseback riding injury to the front of her face when the horse she was riding reared and struck her between the eyes with his face.  She had both black eyes and a bad bruise with a headache for about 3 days, she did not see a doctor.  She informed me she had sporatick head aches that felt like part of her brain was being ripped off, which she passed off as a possiable pinched nerve in her neck.  She said it feels like it comes from inside to the outside always on her left side, about 2 to 3 inches above her ear and a little past center. She said it fells like her brain is loose and rolling around in her head.  She said she had these off and on for some time, but can't tell me when they started, however, they started increasing two days ago and today she has suffered 10 to 15 pains, some more intense than others.  The light hurts her eyes and seems to intensify the pain, she said she could not see the lights of vehicles in front of her.
She also had a recent soar throat which was negative for strep, and the local pediatrician passed it off as alergy (allergy) and sinus.  I am most concerned and do not know where to seek help.

First things first, your message has the heading " Brain Tumor "
there is nothing here which suggests that your daughter has a brain tumor, headaches alone are a very weak indication of a brain tumor so I would not have this even near the top of my list of possibilities.
Whenever we hear of a young woman who has a one sided headache, which are exacerbated by light then we think of migraine as a posssible explanation.
This obviously needs to be investigated more thoroughly, the best person to consult would be a neurologist. Since your daughter is now 16 you have the possibility of having her seen by an adult neurologist rather than a pediatrician, especially if you feel your pediatrician has not taken this seriously.
In summary, I do not think this sounds like a brain tumor but you should have it investigated by a neurologist.
