I have one too. The neuro told me not to worry about it but that it should be rechecked every 5 years. I did get a second opinion and that neuro said the same. I don't have memory problems though.
Meningiomas are benign tumors of the brain. Very rarely they can be malignant. They usually do not cause any symptoms so they are left alone without treatment.
However sometimes they do cause symptoms like seizures, sensory and motor weakness and raised intracranial pressure by putting pressure on the neighboring structures.
Memory loss is not usually a feature of meningioma.
This requires a complete neurological evaluation. In the meantime you can start with some memory building exercise and make sure you eat well balanced meals.
Get a second and then third opinion. Once a tumor is seen, every neurologist I have seen says that it should be rechecked every 4-6 months for growth.
Also, let me add, that just because its 'just a meningioma' does not mean it doesn't cause any symptoms! If you have one growing on the falx, there is every reason to think it possibly could be causing issues. They grow out of the menenges(the brain lining cells), but they still push in on your brain! Depending on what part of your brain or other systems that are near to it i.e. eye chasm, ear structures, ventricles, etc. it could cause a whole host of issues.
I'm speaking from a bit of experience here-Dad had a large calcified meningioma gamma knifed ...My son had a astrocytoma surgically removed(crainiotomy) in January of last year from his frontal lobe- and then I have been diagnosed with what they think is a meningioma on my right temperol lobe...right behind my eye-symptoms: loss of words, anxirty attacks, vision is way off sometimes, dizziness. Some symptoms may be seizure activity as ell...
I am getting a consult w/ \Dr. Reid Thompson at Vanderbilt University...look him up online. He did my son's surgery as well, and they REALLY are equipped to deal w/ anything. My neurologist is nice here in Memphis, but I need the expertise of a whole team. EVERYBODY does...Good Luck and check out Vandy...
