Yes, my 44 yr old husband has diffuse cortical atrophy showing up on his MRI after a sudden onset of vision loss on Jan 26.  It has been 6 wks and he has still not regained his right peripheral vision in both eyes nor his depth perception.  He is seeing a good Neuro-Opthalmologist at UAB, but they are still perplexed about what caused this sudden vision loss.  He was a truckdriver before it happened.  Has anyone heard of anything like this before?  And, mich41, did you have symptoms such as this?  And have they gotten better?

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
Cortical atrophy is characterized by wasting away and decrease in size of the brain. There is an entity known as posterior cortical atrophy which usually occurs after the age of 50 and leads to cognitive impairment.
I would suggest you to please consult an experienced neurologist. Medications and non medication approaches can improve daily functioning and quality of life.
Hope this helps!
