Brainwave generators pseudoscience?

Brainwave generators pseudoscience?

Hi!  Have you heard about these programs or devices that claim they can alter your brainwaves to a certain frequency using "binaural beats" and blinking lights?  I see the word "meditation" come up somewhere, and then another pops in my mind: pseudoscience.  Do these programs and devices do what they claim to do, and even if it does change your brainwave frequency, does that help you learn and relax?

If not -- that is, they just don't work -- then what can I do to dramatically decrease my resistance to learning and relaxing?  I know this  is like expecting a quick fix, but what can I do to instantly cause myself not to get worked up over things and to concentrate other than deep-breathing or seeing a psychiatrist?  You know, like taking some pill you can get over the counter.  I am just convinced that there's gotta be some chemical out there that intensely increases your performance without any really bad side-effects.  C'mon.  By the way, if your solution is something that takes a lot of time and doesn't get rid of the problem mostly, please refrain from responding.

Thanks!!
