Yeah.

You have compression of the sciatic nerve. And they should have ordered an MRI and not a CT, which provides unnecessary radiation to get the same information. Usually this is due to lifting some heavy object improperly some time in the distant past.

You have to avoid lifting, sleep with a pillow between your legs on the side, and avoid riding in vehicles where there are "up-and-down" motions.

This is due to a narrowing of the passageway through which the sciatic nerve passes and a swelling and displacement of the disc between the lumbar vertebrae.

Initial treatment is to avoid muscle relaxants (although some physician prescribe them), take an anti-inflamatory such as prednisone for a few days, keep yourself well hydrated, and go to a physicial therapist who will show you exercises that will reduce the swelling. Generally the prednisone injections don't last long. Oral prednisone is O.K., but only for short periods. Then ibuprufin.

A TENS device will relieve pain, and also a transdermal lidocaine patch. Cut the patch with a scissor and don't leave it on more than twelve hours.

Rest is essential. Generally these conditions "flare" and then, after a few days, return to normal.

Opiates are contraindicated. They don't affect the glial cells, which cause the pain.

Eventually you may require a procedure called a laminectomy, in which they remove a segment of the disc that is compressing the nerve. If you elect this procedure have it done in a place that does a lot of them.
