I have suffered with this for many years. Whenever I lie down to sleep, the pain starts everywhere but upper back, chest, head, and neck. A sleep doctor told me it was probably a variation of restless leg syndrome. I don't have much faith in his answer, since his answer to my sleep issues is that I have trouble falling asleep and then wake up every few minutes.!
Hi
My problem started about 3 or 4 years ago. It started on my 3 middle toes. A tingling/numb sensation just on the bottom of my toes, the part that touches the floor. Then it started. It went to the other foot and soon I could not put my feet under the covers because the heat felt so uncomfortable and made it was hard to sleep. My feet would feel so hot, yet to touch them they were cold to my hands. This continually got worse over time and tried many types of drugs from my doctor who doesn’t have a clue, Even a neurologist was stumped. I had two kidney stone surgery and noticed the pain went away under hydrocodone pain medicine you have to have for weeks with Kidney stone surgery. My neurologist said she could only recommend a pain clinic. So I show up to a pain clinic and they start me on Roxicodone and the pain is very much under control almost gone. But I now notice that this disorder has spread all over my body, Sometimes my hands and feet get so hot I feel like cutting them off. My knees were so hot the other night that the only way out of this will be death. My mother called me just before she died of a heart attact before all my problems started back in 2001 and said she felt like she “ wanted to just craw out of her skin” now I know what she meant by that, Of course, don’t ever tell a doctor that because they will think you are crazy. When I told a doctor that, he recommended a physiatrist. If anybody out there has any clue as to what this mysterious disorder is and where to get help please forward the info. Also if anyone would like to start a support group or know of one please email me. We need to find out what we have in common. Like just before all this started I had a Tetanus Vax. Have any of you had a Tetanus shot?
Thanks for reading.

I started having this same burning in two areas non stop = on my scalp and at the base of my hairline on my neck. I broke my back a couple of months ago and had to take oxycodone and this has helped to releave the pain. I also found out a year ago prior the start of the burning (it started sometime in Sept) that I have a genetic desease which relates to my blood will not allow the vitamin B6 or Zinc to stay in my system. I found out that 10% of the population have this and never know it. B6 helps the nervious system and without it, you can also have depression and other mental health issues. No medication for depression will work on a person with this genitic condition. It is called Pyroluria. Since it requires large amounts of B6 to be taken (1200mg per day ) maybe the B6 has caused this burning. Do you or anyone else have any ideas?

Have you all tried any of those muscle pain salves in the drugstore? They have a numbing effect, might help. Sounds like a type of neuropathy to me, look under specific types and see if you all's is in there. Anyhow, there are nerve pain drugs that you can take that might help, but they're expensive and powerful, stuff like Neurontin and Lyrica.
Have had something similar for appx 20 years; I refer to it as rug-burns. It occurs in different body locations - a thumb, or upper/outer arm, or thigh, or groin/buttock, or forearm. It will be a spot the size of a dime, or another time/location several inches wide, or long. Never any redness, never any kind of rash - just the rug-burn sensation, gradually increasing in intensity over a day, to where as you say - any touch to it, including clothing, is extremely painful. The "patch" will sometimes go away in a day - but usually takes several days to fade away. The more intense it is and the larger the area, the longer it lasts - sometimes up to two weeks. A doctor several years ago thought it might be rashless shingles, but I've read shingles rarely occurs more than once. The "rub-burns", however, never cross my body's midline - if it's in the groin/buttock, it's sharply divided to just the one side. It occurs with no predictable pattern/location - may be on either arm, hand, leg; rarely on an area of my back, and has never happened on the front of the trunk, the neck, or face/head. Very strange - I sure would like to know what causes it. It happens roughly twice a month - but not with any kind of regularity. Have not seen a neurologist - haven't wanted to have the cost of tests, since it's apparently not a terminal disorder. I am comforted to learn there are others out there with similar complaints - since most people don't have a clue what we're talking about! I'm 71- been a long time putting up with it.
