Burning patches and other disparate symptoms.

I do not know if I am directing my question to the most appropriate specialty forum, but here goes!

In 1992 I had Erythema Nodosum. About two years after the EN, I experienced a similar burning sensation in my lower legs like I did at the time of having EN, so much so, that I looked down to examine my legs expecting to find another occurrence. There was nothing visible at all.

In the years since 1992 I have had a similar burning sensation recur about every two years, increasing to yearly and then six monthly – just for a day or so then it’s gone. However in the past three months I have started to have what I describe as a burning/buzzing/icy sensation in my lower legs (below knees) on a daily basis mostly in the later afternoon and evening.

This burning sensation has now advanced to above the knees, the groin, right buttocks, forearms, hands, around my mouth and chin in the past three weeks. Chin and fingers on right hand have been numb at times this past two weeks. I have also had extreme fatigue for the past six weeks and disparate symptoms like very severe right ankle pain which went almost as quickly as it came; severe gut spasms enough to make me double over; nausea lasting eleven days with liver pains; occasional choking on my saliva; calf cramps and muscle twitches.

Does this progression of symptoms suggest Peripheral Neuropathy and if so does it point to any particular cause - as I believe there are many causes?

Look for the gap between May 30 and July 4th...many ?'s disappeared including mine :(

There is a rare condition Guilliane Barr syndrome but it would leave you unable to stand or walk and you would have to be hospitalized until the condition faded which always occurs.

I had what you describe and went to many doctors and neuros.  Was told this was stress ultimatly and was put on anti-depressents.  For 3 years I was a more happy numb and tingly person.  I stopped the ADs and the problem still comes and goes but now i've developed other health problems.  I have been negative for lupus etc but ultimatly I feel this is all connected its not due to stress for myself something is really wrong with my body.  I hope you find your answers soon.

I have had the burning, numbness, tingling all over my body and the doctor said I have peripheral neuropathy, but he does not know why I have the problem in my legs and feet I do have herniations in neck and back but he said the ones in low back are not that bad. He has now said it is because I am depressed and perscribed antidepressents today. I am not depressed I cried in the doctors office because I am in soooo much pain and I just feel like screaming out loud for someone to help me this has been going on for 5 years and it has gotten worse in the last two years. Now I fell the burning and tingling in my face and I am scared it will get worse too.

Have you all checked with your physicians about Fibromyalgia? I have Fibromyalgia and Chemical Sensitivity and I was diagnosed in 1998 and they think I have had it longer then that yet. I also have burning sensations all over my body and have had this since I hurt my neck when I was a kid. I went to doctors upon doctors to find out what that sensation was NOBODY new what it was - some said you are fine, some said your temp is normal, all your tests that we ran are negative, So it is a nerve problem and etc. I have been through it all and now I found this most wonderful doctor in my area that BELIEVES in FMS. Remember not all doctors believe in it and they should! It is everwhere and a lot of people have it now days! I think all M.D.'s and specialists should get that training in FMS & CFS and etc like that nature and YES it should be manditory that they have to go. I believe alot of people have these burning sensations all over there body from nerve damage - toxins in the air,medications,food, and etc. You could also have a Chemical sensitivity to something YES that also can cause burning sensations in the body. You need to find a good Doctor that can help you - have you found a Rheumatologist yet? You should go see one.
