Burning tops of foot and toes

I have had a numbness in the tops of my feet from the centre of my foot to my big toe almost a tendon area, it comes and goes, its sortve tingling, burning but numb very hard to explain, and sometimes feels like a small electric shock. I wonder if it is nerve damage. Anyway last night at work I got the same in my left hand from my wrist along the bone to my forefinger, like a sharp electric shock and pins and needles. I have talked to my doctor numerous times on this and have had nothing. This has been going on for a number of years. Any ideas please.
