C-6 & C-7 Fusion

by help37, May 01, 2008 02:23PM
I had a spinal fusion of my C-6 & C-7 a year age. I was in an automobile accident 17 years ago & have had on & off pain since. I have a reverse curve to my neck. I under went several months of physical therapy after the  sugery. This only made things worse. My Neurosurgeon has sent me to every Dr.,  & have every test ran you can think of. I am still in daily pain. Sometimes it is almost un-tolllerable. Last test I had ran showed I had a bone spur, bersidus, & cacium built up in my left shoulder. He sent me to therapy. I can handle the pain in my shoulder, but the pain in my neck down my back, around my chest is horrible. I could not continue therapy. Do you have any answers?

I am going in Thursday next week for a CT nerve root  block of C-6.
I have had  fusion in 1988 and in daily pain also.
I will post to let all know  how i do.
I have a friend  who had this done  and has  gone from a pain level of 9 to a level of 2 in 3 weeks

Well  the first  nerve block went great..
Pain was almost completely gone by the time I was off the table but did come back after  about 5 days.
Had a second about a month later and  did not have the same result.
Now I am headed for a second operation  to open area where nerve is pinched and will require a second fusion.
I am going for it as I am 63 and  at a point of what have I got to loose as time is running out as the older I get the harder it will be  to heal and other issues of my health could prevent me from having the fusion.
Wish me luck..
Nov 17th is the day of the  fusion.

Thanks selma,
All went OK.
Still have some muscle pain in neck but much better than before.
The hardest part of the whole thing was me coming off the pain meds that I was on for over 2 years.
I went cold turkey and it was not pretty.
I am going on my 7 week since the operation and off pain meds now for 4 weeks so thing are getting back to normal.
I can truly say it was worth the risks
