: I recently had an MRI for another health problem.  It showed a
tumor on the C1 C2 area of the spine.  I have neurofibromatosis,  and
would like to know about C1 C2 tumors.  I have an appointment with a
neurologist in a few weeks. I want to be prepared to ask some questions,
that will help me understand what is to be expected.
  Thanks  Debbie

Dear Debbie,
Neurofibromas of the spinal canal are common in patients who have NF1.
These are benign growths and do not need to be removed unless they are causing
you problems such as weakness and numbness in the extremities or if you are
having difficulty breathing.
You should speak to your neurologist about the expected course with NF1 and
the options that may arise.
Good luck.
