==============================================================================================================
There are a number of cystic masses that can occur in the spinal cord or adjacent vertebral bones--- some are tumors, some are related to prior injury, some are related to the vertebral bones etc. Whether a cyst can cause weakness depends on whether it is compressing the spinal cord, or any of the spinal nerves as they come out of the spinal cord. There are no famous doctors who specialize in cysts that I know of. I think that seeing a spinal neurosurgeon would be the closest type of doctor you could find. At the Cleveland Clinic, we have a spinal neurosurgeon known as Dr. Ian Kalfas. If you are interested in making a trip to Cleveland to see Dr. Kalfas, the neurosurgery appointment desk number is 216-444-5672 (or 1-800-223-2273 ext. 45672)
