Can Herpes Simplex cause postherpetic neuralgia?

by E D, Nov 27, 2000 12:00AM
Can Herpes Simplex (genital herpes) cause postherpetic neuralgia?  And if so, can the symptoms appear in other areas other than the area of the lesions?  For example, can it affect the lower nerves in the sciatic distribution?

Thank you for taking my questions.

Dear Ed:

The answer to your question is yes.  There are treatments available and would seek medications from your family physician.

Sincerely,

CCF Neuro MD
