Can a herniated disc cause flank pain?

by tlpnsc, Apr 14, 2004 12:00AM
I have suffered from two herniated discs and repairs to both within one year.  I also had a hysterectomy due to endometriosis and flank pain.  Though my endometriosis was not severe I was still encouraged to have a hysterectomy due to my severe flank pain.  I knew at the time that my leg pain was from the second herniated disc but was told by the doctor that it would not cause the flank pain.  After the hysterectomy my flank pain continued and once the disc was repaired a few months later, the flank pain disappeared.  My question is, can a herniated disc cause flank pain?  Thanks.

It depends on which disc is herniated. Discs T7-T12 may cause flank pain like symptoms. The lumbar discs should not cause flank pain. Good luck
