Can brains shrink??

Can brains shrink??

Hi -

I had a sinus CT in January 2007 w/ regards to a deviated septum.  There was a comment on the CT report that nobody ever mentioned/thought was important.  I just re-read it today and it says:

"Limited evaluation of the brain parenchyma demonstrates nonspecific mild posterior parietal volume loss."

Umm - is my brain shrinking???  My plastic surgeon (septoplasty/rhinoplasty) said that brain region has to do w/ motor skills and something else...he said that when i had just gone to brush hair out of my face at that moment if something was wrong it wouldn't have went so well.

I googled it and schizophrenia and autism and alcoholism come up!

Should I be worried?  I'm 28 and female.

Thanks!

Hi.

How old are you now? Have you experienced any symptoms which could point to a neurological disorder?

The CT scan findings in your case revealed mild brain atrophy. Brain atrophy can be caused by a lot of conditions and is a non-specific finding on brain imaging. Although some causes can be serious, most of the time, this is just an incidental finding and is age-related atrophy, with no symptoms occurring.

Hope this answers your query.
