Can't wear bra for any length of time due to two nerve blocks to correct a broken right arm just above the wrist that was not set right

by imskenow, Apr 20, 2008 12:45AM
A shoulder nerve block was used to rebreak my arm just above the wrist & correctly set it.  A second nerve block was used about 1 1/2 yrs later to remove all of the metal hardware.  The surgery was quite successful and I have good hand and arm movement without constant pain.  The problem is my shoulder.  I did land on it as well a my wrist when I fell.  However I am thinking it may be caused by the 1st nerve block.  I came home with a fine needle inserted inito my shoulder and a box hanging around my neck which would automatically dispense pain medicine.  I never pushed the button myself.  I did however accidentlly drop the box while in the bathroom the second day home.  The anathesoliologist (sp?) called at home the 2nd night and when I told him I had no pain at all, he asked me to feel the fingers on my hand.  When I did they were numb.  He immediately asked to talk to my husband & instructed him on how to remove the fine needle and remove everything, including throwing away the black box. When the arm had healed, everything was alright except my right shoulder,  The pain and feeling that I didn't want a bra strap on my shoulder continued up to and after the second nerve block at the time all of the metal was removed.

I do try to golf once a week and the swinging motion does not bother much.  The kind of things that cause my shoulder to hurt the most is wearing a bra strap for an extended period, playing bridge at a table high enough that I have to hold my arm up, & of course being on the computer, typing or using the mouse.

I have had a number of epidurals for my lower back which effects my right leg, and in my neck (whip lash) .  I have osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.  I do all of this to keep moving, golfing & riding my bicycle.

Sorry this is so long winded.

This discussion is related to nerve block for surgery, how long to resolve?.
