Carbatrol and new onset staring episodes in a child

My daughter was recently started on carbamazepine for generalized tonic-clonic seizures and had a recent trough level of 12. Over the past two days she started to have staring episodes and unresponsiveness for 3-4 seconds about 20-30 times a day. Does this mean she should increase or increase the dose, or does the medication need longer to work, or should we change this medication?
