Celebrex vs Neuropathy

Hi,

After many exam, my doctor just told me that she think my chronic pain to the legs is probably due to neuropathy.  We've used a list of question from the diabetic foundation to evaluate the type of pain i have and it all indicated to the neuropathy, even if i'm not diabetic.

So were came the neuropathy? I did research on the web for side effect for the other med i was taking. And to my surprise Celebrex is a potential contributor to neuropathy. So i want to know, if any of you is suffering from neuropathic pain and are not diabetic and have used Celebrex for a long time?

Until recently i was using Effexor and used it for 10 years, so i think the effexor was camouflaging my pain since they use it in neuropathy treatement. But, during the last year of using Effexor the pain got stronger, and now since i'm free of Effexor the pain is getting stronger.

Any comment or suggestion from you would be appreciated.

I have been using Celebrex for over 15 year and in January I lost the use of my legs. I was taken to hospital and after four days I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy and spinal stenosis. This has completely destroyed my life. My mother also took Celebrex and she suffered with neuropathy until her death.

Hope I'm doing this right.  I just found this site and after posting my question saw yall's conversations.  That's coincidental, I took effexor and celebrex for a while (wasn't more than a year though) in the past and have some of the same symptoms yall are talking about.  Mine didn't really start, well the fatigue started within the last month and the leg and knee pain started a few months ago, but have accelerated recently, my feet started to hurt about a year ago, but I'm on them a lot, so I just thought that was why.  I can hardly walk when I get up in the mornings, it really seems to bother me after I've been immobile for a while or after I've been working hard in the heat on my feet about 8 or so hours, then they begin to really hurt.  The pain behind my knees and my general fatigue (the fatigue is unusual for me) has been a recent development.  I'm going to try the vitamins, I'm a believer in vitamin therapy if you know which ones to take.  Bless Your Heart, You've been through it.  I feel lucky to have made it to 55 and just now really beginning to fall apart, but I waited late in life to start doing manual labor for a living, that probably is playing a part in it, but I figured the exercise would be good for me. I know there is a lot to be said for vitamin therapy and diet.  I recently met a remarkable woman, she was 1 year older than me and the doctors told her she wouldn't live past this last March.  Cancer.  But she didn't only follow their lead, she also started going to a nutritionist and got on vitamin therapy, she was tumor free after having 90 some odd tumors and some other count that has to do with the cancer was reduced significantly at that point, the doctors tell her what a blessing she is.  She attributes a lot of her success so far to the nutritional changes she made through, so we help ourselves a lot with our diet.  Good Luck.

Hi stumbled across this site and your posts by surfing and just wanted to share my own experience. I have severe neuropathy this past year due to my extensive vascular blockages in both legs, which led to no blood flow to my feet, causing severe neuroparhy. I have been on Gabapentin (Neurotin) 800mg 3x a day for 6 months. Wonder drug at beginning but the wonder has worn off lol. Am now on Lyrica, 100mg 3x a day. No help at all. Times I wish I had no feet the pain is so bad. That is my greatest fear, of losing my limbs. This Wednesday August 27th, I go in for my THIRD abdominal bypass. This has been going on since 2001. Once I hit 40, boy did it hit back lol. Sorry for laughing, but my sense of humor has saved me on more than one occassion. I swear I feel like my whole body is just one big disease from head to toe, literally!!! It is very depressing to say the least. I think I am going to try motes329 suggestion of the Vitamin regimen once my surgery is done and I have consulted with my Vascular Surgeon about it. Natural is always the best way to go. My latest complaint is very blurry vision in my right eye only, with an aura when looking at any kind of light, IE: lamp posts etc... Could be side effect of meds perhaps????? Need to go to eye doc but of course, my insurance doesn't cover eye visits (Medicare, since I am on Disability). Ahhhhhh how lovely, our tax dollars at work (big smirk).. Well, I appreciate any replys and input.. Best regards and God Bless. Kat

I do take other drugs except vitimans but vitimans are the only thing i take for neuropathy. My level of pain is almost none most of the time It only hurts bad if I drink alcohol or miss taking the vitimans. I take the dose I mentioned 2 times a day but my friend that I have reccomended this treatment too take more and some take less you just have to play with the dosage and get the size right for you.

Thank you so much for your help.

I will investigate the vitamins suggestion.

When you say 2500mg of B1 and 100Mg  is it total for the day or for each take?

How is your level of pain now? Do you take other meds beside de vitamins?

Thx

I have take celebrex for Approx 10 years and I developed this disease in Dec. 2006, it was so bad with pain that I was on the edge of comitting suicide.
I went to emergency room in houston med center they injected demoralle it did nothing to stop the pain. I went to the emergency room in Huntsville Texas they injected morphine it did nothing to stop the pain. Non of these doctors including my family quack had a clue what the problem was. I finally went to Mobile infirmary in Al. where a young doctor diagnosed it as neuropathy.
I began experimenting with vitamins and found 2500mg of vitiman B1 and 100mg of vitamin B6 relieved the pain better than any other treatment, steriods included.
I take two doses of the vitimans every day morning and evening.
I am not diabetic.
Please forgive the misspelled words.
