Cerebral Cavernous Hemangioma Removal

by Hakim, Jul 30, 2002 12:00AM
I have a large Cavernous Hemangioma behind my left eye.  This growth is pushing my optic nerve but doesn't appear to be attached.  My eye protrudes slightly.  I am scheduled for surgery at the end of this month.  The doctor will remove this growth by making an incision by my eye and removing the bone to get to the Hemangioma.  My question is would this be the most effective and safe method of removing this growth?  Also, should I expect scaring?  If there is scaring will plastic surgery help?

Cavernous hemangiomas of the optic nerve can be microsurgically reomved from different frontal (sub/trans) approaches by the neurosurgeon depending on how extensive and exactly where the hemangioma is. This appears to the most common and effective method of removal. As for the risks and side effects, this should be discussed directly with your surgeon. Best of luck.
