Chest pain with Cervical Disc Rupture

by chele121, Apr 19, 2008 08:30AM
I have a ruptured disc in C4 (I think) and bulging disc in C3 and C6. I also show degenerative disc problems in C5 and C7. I was admitted to the hospital in Mar. with pain in between shoulder blades and chest pain. Left hand was killing me. Immediately, they thought heart. I had CT, EKG, Nuclear Stress test - all normal. My concern is that my dad and grandfather both died at 59 of heart attacks. I am a 46 yr. old female. I have low blood pressure, total cholestrol is high end of normal (180). The chest pain basically started at the same time as the pain between the shoulder blades. Should I just assume that it is related to my disc and not my heart. I have a cardiologist and he does not seem too concerned about heart since other tests have been normal, but has mentioned that we might want to do a heart catherization. I do know that you can have a normal EKG and stress test and still have blockage in heart. I am trying not to worry about this too much as I know that can bring on chest pain from anxiety. Is there a test other than a heart catherization that would be more accurate in diagnosing a heart blockage. I really do not want to have a heart cath. I am probably 10 lbs. at the most overweight. I try to walk daily - no chest pain when walking. The chest pain is more when I am sitting at my desk or sitting down. Right now while I am typing, it is hurting. I have heard about a new CT angiograph that is nonivasive.

Doctors are ordering the CT angio more and more now, especially on younger people.   The heart cath is the most definitive test but is invasive and there are risks.  I had a herniated disk c-5/6.  I had pain in my chest just below the clavicles on both sides.  My neurosurgeon said it was from the disk.  It's hard to tell the difference.
