I have worn a special patented device made from Dr. Boyd (a denist) that prevents me from clenching my teeth at night but as of yet no improvement from that device. I have also had 3 sinus surgeries over the last 12 years.
My question: I have a constant pressure like, crackling, and popping sensation in my ears. I have read descriptions of pseudotumor cerebri, can this problem be seen in a CAT Scan or does it need to be verified another way??
I am thinking of trying a chiropracter and going to a pain management clinic as these headaches are intense, daily, and really a nuisance to my life. I am not the pleasant outgoing girl I used to be..because of teh headaches. Don't get me wrong I am hopeful but just sick of the daily pain. I have lost ten pounds in two months because of the nausea that accompnies these headaches. Another symptom that accompynies my headaches are extreme sensitivity to noise and light.
What steps do I have left to take?? I appreciate your suggestions and look forward to your response. Thank you very much!
Sincerely,
Julia Papathanasakis

I definitely think that you have some options left, firstly the pseudotumor
cerebri question, this cannot be seen on CT scan, by definition the CT
should be normal. The condition is diagnosed by means of a spinal tap
during which the pressure of the spinal fluid is measured.
It is dramatically elevated in pseudotumor and the symptoms are relieved
temporarily by drainage of CSF.
As regards furter work-up I would suggest that you see a neurologist in a
specialized headached clinic and in conjunction with that have a referral
to a chronic pain management clinic.
I feel you will have a better chance of relief if you get an accurate diagnosis
in association with a specialised pain managent program.
