Chronic Foot Pain

Chronic Foot Pain

I have been diagnosed with tarsal tunnel syndrome and neuroma. I have
had three surgeries in two years: 1.Ganglion cyst removal, 2. Tarsal
tunnel decompression, 3.Neuroma removal.  At each surgery, I was told
that this would "fix" my pain... Now, I continue to have severe pain
in arch of foot, electric sensations, inner ankle pain to the touch; it
feels like a bad bruise, decreased mobility, stiffness, burning, etc..
I am now at the point of living on pain killers, and being depressed
both from the pain, and lack of being able to do things I used to do.
I feel like they are "missing something" when I tell them these things.
I am only 28 years old, and cannot imagine living in this much pain for
the rest of my life! I wonder if you may have any info, and/or
  suggestions about this problem?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!!
  Thanks, Laurie

Sorry to hear about your problem. Unfortunately this is not an unusual situation. I have seen several patients with your story and after each surgery they are alittle worse. The diagnosis of tarsal tunnel is made electrically with EMG and clinically. You sound as if you are now having causalgia (nerve pain) which is common. At this point treatment is difficult and you should be very careful about having further susrgery. I would recommend an EMG by a lab that is experienced in these procedures (such as CCF). It is possible that the onlt treatment available at this time is therapy and pain control. Most patients can get some degree of symptomatic relief but it is not always easy and will require time. If you wish to see someone at CCF call 216 444 5559. Good luck
