Chronic pain in hips and numbness in leg and foot from back surgery

by CP1216, Mar 25, 2009 08:14AM
My husband had back surgery two weeks ago and since then has had not feeling in his right foot, tingling in his right leg, and hip pain.  At night the burning feeling in the hip area, both hips, is really severe.  He is getting therapy for his legs and foot.  He had lumbar fusion from L5 down to S1.  He had extensive arthritis, bone spurs, the disc completely gone between L4 and L5 and a lower one was herniated.  The pain seems to be tolerable during the day.  What can we do for the pain and how long does it take to go away?  We keep being told it will take time.  Could something be wrong?
