  Can anything be done to alter the progression of chronic-progressive MS?
  Are statistics available regarding the rate of progression of c-p MS?

Multiple clinical trials and treatments are underway to treat various forms of Multiple Sclerosis including chronic progressive MS.
Here, at the Cleveland Clinic Mellen Center for Multiple Sclerosis, many trials are under way. I would suggest that you call the Center directly for information and possible evaluation. The phone number is 1800 CCF CARE and ask for the Mellen Center or for Neurology Appointment if you desire to make an appointment.
The rate of progression of c-p MS is variable and depends on multiple factors including the  treatment (s) administered and patient's age and medical condition among others.
