Clonus in ankles

by Freckles77, Jan 20, 2009 07:45AM
Hi

What does 3 beats of clonus in ankles mean.  Everything else in the neuro test seems ok.  It also said reflexes easily elicited but plantars here going down.

Thanks

Hi,

It will help to know what exactly are your symptoms and since when. It is important to correlate the test results with your clinical symptoms.

Clonus is a repetitive rhythmic contraction of muscle when attempting to hold it in a stretched state. Ankle clonus as a test is a series of abnormal reflex movements of foot, induced by sudden dorsiflexion of foot.

It is a deep tendon reflex which signifies a central neurological problem like multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, spastic paraparesis and other diseases.

Hope this helps.

Hi

I started with having vision problem in right eye.  Went to eye hospital and they said it was not moving at the same speed and left eye.  Got mri scan, had three white spots.  Then lost taste from left side of tongue and then a couple of weeks later hearing loss in left ear.

Eyesight went back to normal after 2 weeks, taste too about a month to come back.  Hearing is still not back completely and still have mild tinnitus.

I have cutaneous lupus in hands, reynaulds in hands and feet.  Mother has sacoidosus and Lyme disease.

Had neuro test everything was reacting as it should - apart from three beats of clonus in both ankles.  Felt dizzy to start with, this has cleared up.  Still feel very tired.

Symptoms started at the end of October 08.

Thanks
Claire
