Cognitive decline in a 26 year old

Health history
For the past 2 years sudden symptoms have begun and continued to progress. They began with severe fatigue and slight depression suddenly for no reason or change in lifestyle pace. My body was well conditioned to my pace. Then my joints started to feel stiffened and slowed movements or reaction time. Then the stiffness hit my neck and was worse than any stiff neck I ever had. This lasted for 1 year and half. The drs did blood work extensively including Lyme disease and autoimmune diseases like lupus or ms and brain mris and ct scans but all were normal.
Then my vision started to get blurry which I wasn't alarmed because I have had migraine history. But these vision changes were more doubling with heavy weakened eyelids that were difficult to keep open and focusing problems Then the last stage was neurological symptoms of mild dementia beginning. Having trouble with memory, slowly getting confused in familiar places and struggling to recognize people and objects, accompanied by extreme insonmia and newly developed anxiety attacks, which create fainting. The drs have reassess and redid the MRI if brain neck and spine and EEG with more blood work and a nueropsch test for memory with reasoning questions, I scored average which to me wasn't impressive for a honor graduate in college. I also have bruising that develops for no reason and rashes that come and go. The drs tested the blood for enceophalopathies which are brain disfunction diseases but all normal results with anemia tests also normal. I really don't know where to go from here my career has taken a huge loss and had to leave my job due to these horrifying symptoms. I have never traveled out of country and need advice on how to get answers from this point.

thanks so much I am so baffled. my vision is getting increasingly blurry which is hard becasue the migraines I have had since I was young are interfering with my diagnosis. I thought chronic  menigitis as well but my Infectious disease dr  has advised I would have a higher fever and it wouldnt have lasted this long. Thanks for your help nontheless.

Just checking on the " DRUG....Adverse Reactions.....area".
You didn't by chance ever take " WELLBUTRIN"........for depression?
It can cause all.......adverse reactions you've described....YES,and DEATH!

Wellbutrin destroys brain neurons in the 1 )   Temporal Lobe: Memory, Judgment,90%.....after taking for a while....neuron degeration continues...causing "Mild Cognitive Impairment"...the early " ONSET  of
ALZHEIMERS  DISEASE                      2 )  Parietal Lobe:  Balance,
Spacial Awarenes, Coordination

MRI  would show atrophy in the Temporal and Parietal Lobe......but only after significant "neuron atrophy".....you can have " Symptoms almost
immediately after taking "Wellbutrin".....it takes ....? diff....amt of time....

even if the "Wellbutrin Drug is Stopped".....and the person dies in 9 to 12
years...., Wellbutrin Withdrawal Syndrome:   Poor Coordination, Falling
Daily.......

I had a Toxic Reaction to Wellbutrin XL 300 mg BID: ( I had taken Well SR
150 mg BID for 15 months) Took Well XL 300 mg for only....10 days
The 10th day I had 4 Grand Mal Sizures; 1 1/2 hours apart.........

To Learn about "Wellbutrin" Google: (    Wellbutrin: Mild Cognitive

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. How scary and confusing.

Meningitis was the first thing that occurred to me as well, also because of the stiff neck. But the other symptoms.. eh. I don't know.

Lupus was the next thing that occurred to me, because of the rashes and joint pains. Those are NOT symptoms of MS. You should also see a rheumatologist.

Please update us when you get some answers.

Meningitis is the first thing that occurred to me, on account of one of your early major symptoms was a stiff neck, THE indicator of that disease.  Your scans and bloodwork should have shown this, but it couldn't hurt to ask the docs to check for that again.

You might want to get a lumbar puncture, if you haven't had one already, it confirms a diagnosis of MS.  I know what you mean about being an honor student and then winding up with an average score on memory.  I do not have MS, rather I have confusion from pain after a car wreck tore up my back.  And I still recall when I made a career change to nursing, and a professor said I was doing pretty good to be reading at a 10th-grade level.  Mind you, I graduated university and did graduate work, was an editor on newspapers for years.  But for me, it was pain that drove me to this confused state.

In addition to the LP, I would also suggest you visit a specialist in rare diseases.  Apparently what is happening to you is not the usual stuff.  Those docs think out of the box, they get all the people who nobody else can figure out.  One other consideration is if you are taking ANY medication, particularly when all this began, have the prescribing doc review side effects and change if needed.  Hope this helps.
